Hunter Biden’s long history of substance abuse and making explicit videos of himself, as well as engaging in business transactions that are questionable, has been a source for awkward questions for his father’s administration.
Breitbart noted that these questions were raised again this week, after it was revealed that the younger Biden still has substantial Chinese investments.
The website recalled that Jen Psaki, White House press secretary, addressed the issue of Biden’s Chinese holdings in February when she was asked about it.
“He has been working to unwind his investment, but I would certainly point you — he’s a private citizen,” she said. “I would point you to him or his lawyers on the outside on any update.”
According to the Washington Examiner, Psaki made the same claim after being asked again about the president’s son during a July briefing.
Biden still holds almost half a million dollars in stock
The paper reported Monday that Chinese business records showed Biden still holds a 10% equity state in Bohai Harvest RST, (Shanghai), Equity Investment Fund Management Company (BHR).
The Examiner recalled that Biden had promised to resign as a member of the firm’s board of directors in late 2019. However, this promise was not kept until April 2020. Biden still appears to have stock worth $464,000, despite his resignation.
BHR is said by the Examiner to have had “made extensive investments in multiple controversial Chinese companies,” including one linked to “repression and high-technology surveillance in Xinjiang” province.
BHR was also linked to the China General Nuclear Power Group. This company was accused in 2016 by the Justice Department of trying to steal American nuclear technology.
Candidate Joe Biden promised that his family members would not have foreign business ties
The Examiner reported that it asked for comment from the White House about Biden’s ongoing involvement in China. Andrew Bates, deputy press secretary, stated that he could only “refer to Jen’s comments or Hunter Biden’s representatives.”
These developments are a far cry of what Joe Biden claimed when he was running for the presidency.
“No one in my family will have an office in the White House, will sit in on meetings as if they are a cabinet member, will, in fact, have any business relationship with anyone that relates to a foreign corporation or a foreign country. Period. Period. End of story,” the Des Moines Register quoted him as saying after a 2019 event in Iowa.
