Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-Calif.), who recently attacked Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.), is back to target Texas.
In three major Texas newspapers, Newsom is running a full-page advertisement condemning Gov. Greg Abbot (R-Texas) for his views on abortion and firearms.
In an effort to have Abbot backtrack on his statements, the advertisements changed the phrases abortion and gun violence to California and Texas, respectively.
The advertisements take aim at Abbott, who recently claimed that Texas youngsters are losing their lives due to abortion.
Texans will wake up this morning to this simple message:
— Gavin Newsom (@GavinNewsom) July 22, 2022
If Texas can ban abortion and endanger lives, California can ban deadly weapons of war and save lives.
If @GovAbbott truly wants to protect the right to life, he should follow California’s lead. https://t.co/KnK3uKlQep
The Democratic governor supports California’s gun legislation, which permits residents to bring private lawsuits against other residents for ghost firearms, or weapons created or sold illegally, and is comparable to the state’s abortion law.
The advertisement, which appears in the Austin American-Statesman, Houston Chronicle, and El Paso Times, feeds rumors that Newsom is getting ready to declare his candidacy for president in 2024.
He just spent $105,000 on a Fox News commercial against DeSantis while also criticizing Democrats for being a touch too tolerant of purported abortion rights.
The Ad reads, “Our creator endows us with the right to life. And yet children lose their right to life every year because of gun violence. In California, we work to save those lives. If Texas can ban abortion and endanger lives, California can ban deadly weapons of war and save lives. If Governor Abbott truly wants to protect the right to life, we urge him to follow California’s lead.”
