A New York City teacher was jailed after choking a 12-year-old pupil in the school cafeteria.
Chester Hingle, 45, was arrested on suspicion of harming a child’s welfare and illegal obstruction of respiration.
According to a source, the event occurred at IS 217 School of the Performing Arts in the Foxhurst neighborhood of the Bronx.
Hingle reportedly grabbed the child’s sweatshirt and wrapped his hands around their neck for five seconds, according to police.
“It’s difficult in this school because students go crazy over the years. A lot of fights and they talk back a lot,” Rodriguez said in a statement.
The cause of the tragedy was not immediately known. The student was brought to Lincoln Hospital and treated before being discharged.
Ethan Rodriguez, an eighth student, claims that Hingle, whom he describes as a gym teacher, has never touched any of his pupils. The Department of Education has opened an inquiry, calling Hingle’s alleged behavior completely unacceptable. According to the department, he has been transferred away from the school and pupils until the result of the inquiry.
“There is nothing more important than the safety and well-being of our students,” the DOE commented.
