In the streets of Ottawa, Canada’s capital, freedom truckers and their allies are being detained.

The Ottawa Police Service has been contacted to corroborate claims of a large number of arrests. Any police response will be provided as soon as it becomes available.

In an important update, Rebel News journalist Ezra Levant stated that when the media arrived with cameras, police appeared to back off on arrests.

This is similar to what demonstrators saw on Friday night. The Ottawa Police Department appeared to be on the verge of forcibly dispersing the peaceful protesters, but later withdrew.

The city of Ottawa declared a state of emergency on Sunday afternoon in response to continued protests in the downtown core, just hours after police announced increased enforcement and a crackdown on demonstrators’ fuel supplies.

The declaration of a local state of emergency will allow Ottawa to handle vital services more effectively and make procurement more flexible, according to the city. During an emergency, provincial laws gives mayors the authority to issue orders not contrary to law to implement the municipality’s emergency plan and preserve property as well as the health, safety, and welfare of the residents in the emergency region.
