Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., is being urged by an increasing number of Republican members to consider permanently joining the GOP. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., told reporters last week that Manchin switching would be “a fantastic idea.”
Following his opposition to United States President Joe Biden’s $1.8 trillion Build Back Better spending program, several left-wing Democrats have urged Manchin to leave the party, but the senator has not stated publicly that he intends to do so.

Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, said this week on Fox News Digital that Manchin would be welcome in the Republican Party, but that such a shift would be tricky for him.
“Joe, if they don’t want you, we do,” Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, told local Austin news station KXAN.
She added that she does not know what Manchin will decide to do and that all she knows is West Virginia has gotten increasingly red. She further stated that it will be a game changer if Manchin will join their side.

Cornyn said he hasn’t heard back from Manchin yet, but that it’d be the “greatest Christmas gift” if he joins the GOP
Sen. Bill Hagerty, R-Tenn., also said Manchin would be welcome on Fox News with Neil Cavuto. He stated, “We’re in a dead set 50-50 Senate.” “They only have power because they have control of the White House, and we’d be thrilled to have Joe Manchin.”
“In the ten years I’ve known him, he’s never once suggested switching parties with me,” a source close to Manchin told Fox News on Tuesday.
