JaNeice Jenkins assessed the situation immediately and performed the Heimlich maneuver to remove the plastic cap from the child’s mouth.

A little boy who had a bottle cap trapped in his neck was saved thanks to quick action by a teacher in the United States. A video of the hero teacher assisting the student became widely circulated.

On Monday, the incident occurred at the East Orange Community Charter School in New Jersey. When the incident occurred, the nine-year-old student was in his arithmetic lesson. The kid, named Robert, is shown on CCTV footage in the classroom attempting to sip water from a plastic bottle.

However, as he approaches his teacher JaNeice Jenkins while choking, the Class 3 student is seen coughing and struggling to swallow it. Jenkins assessed the situation immediately and performed the Heimlich maneuver to remove the plastic cap from the child’s mouth.

The child claimed that he tried but failed to open the bottle with his hand because he was thirsty. “Then I started with my teeth, pressing it a little, and the water pushed the cap to my throat.”

He stated he wanted to go to the sink and cough it out, but when he couldn’t, he raced to his instructor for assistance.

Jenkins, who was trained in CPR and basic first aid as a preschool teacher, said she simply responded and didn’t have time to think. “I saw he needed help and I just sprung into action to help him. He couldn’t breathe, his face was pretty pale and he had a look of desperation on his face.”

Jenkins has been a teacher for 14 years and has spent the last five years at East Orange Community Charter School, where she was pleased to be able to assist her pupil.

East Orange Mayor Ted Green and Congressman Donald Payne Jr will present her with an award and a proclamation for saving Robert’s life.
