A woman from Virginia gave a stirring speech in which she chastised her child’s school board for imposing a mask rule that she saw as blatant political play.
Merianne Jensen chastised the Prince William County School Board for requiring young kids to wear masks.
She cited data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which showed that during the pandemic, 49,000 Americans under the age of 18 died of all causes, with just 331 of those deaths being COVID-related. COVID-related mortality in children, according to Jensen, were lower than deaths from heart disease, cancer, suicide, homicide, and drowning.
Jensen stated that she spoke with the school superintendent about the mask mandate in November, and that she was told that her hands were tied because former Democratic Gov. Ralph Northam had enforced a statewide mandate. Things would be different if it weren’t for the state mask mandate, according to the school superintendent. Virginia’s mask mandate was revoked by Republican Governor Glenn Youngkin.
Last month, the Prince William County School Board made headlines for its handling of a 13-year-old girl’s alleged sexual assault. During a school board hearing, a parent was moved to tears as he asked questions regarding his daughter’s alleged sexual assault at school. The distressed parent was told to send an email by the school board members, who subsequently asked him to step away.
